Yin Yang coaching seeks to rebalance stresses or opposing factors. According to Taoism, Yin and Yang are two opposing energies that ebb and flow. Some of the different yin (black) and yang (white) characteristics are shown in the lists below, with those that are directly related to coaching shown in italic.

The use of coaching (Yin qualities and skills) in organisations and life can be seen as an extremely useful and are a relatively recent balance to more traditional (and often corporate) styles of Yang energy. Here are some common examples of opposing factors and subsequent balance that clients might seek to achieve:

  • Self and others
  • Acceptance and change
  • Family and friends
  • Work and life

Taken from the A-Z Coaching Handbook by Clare Smale where you will find a comprehensive A-Z, plus a full list of references.
